Here is my done-in-a-week, for under $100, re-do of our guest bedroom.
Please brace yourself for the wallpaper you are about to see in the before pictures.
I hope you don't easily get dizzy....it's some busy wallpaper folks.
Are you ready? Here goes.....
Wowzers. What do you think? Have you ever seen anything like it. We called it the French Cafe room for obvious reasons. Hundreds of little French Cafe's on every square inch of the wall. I kept the door shut at all times unless absolutely necessary. About a month ago I got a wild hair to re-do it the week before my sister and her family came for their first visit to our house. So a week later this is what it looked like......
I had previously spent about 20+ hours over the course of a few months scraping the wallpaper off with very little progress. I figured at that pace I would never complete the room so I did some research and learned that oil-based primer could be painted over wall paper and it would not peel. So with the help of some friends we primed over the wallpaper and then painted with a Sherwin Williams gray.
We are storing this beautiful piece of furniture for my sister and brother-in-law while they are in Ukraine for 3 years so I knew I wanted to do something with gray and yellow to tie in this furniture and the pillow on the bed. I had bought the pillow at Target a few years ago and have never really had a good place for it in the house but always wanted to use it. So this was finally my chance.
I went to Hancock Fabrics and found this yellow and gray fabric to coordinate with what I already had. I recovered this chair I had bought at a yard sale for 5 bucks with the fabric.
The before fabric was an old faded red.
The seat cushion had a huge hole through it so Nick cut plywood to fit the bottom of chair. I bought a 4 inch piece of foam at Hobby Lobby, cut it to the shape of plywood and covered it with fabric. For the top cushion I just recovered the cushion that was already on it and made some piping.
I already had these white linen curtains but they did not reach the floor so I sewed a piece of extra fabric at the top with navy trim to coordinate with Euro Shams on bed.
Here is the break down of what I had to buy:
primer and paint from Sherwin Williams (I went during 40% off sale)-$64
2 yards of yellow bird fabric-$16
chair-$5
foam for chair cushion-$9
trim for curtains-$3
The Grand total was $97!!! My husband was proud!
My sweet neighbor gave me the 3 Euro pillows and shams and everything else I already had.
I hope this room is used to host many, many guest in our home! I think hope it's a little more inviting than before.

Girl!!! That is awesome! Great job!
Oh man! One of the bathrooms in our old house had hidious floral (gravevine floral) wallpaper and we never had time or money to rip it off and sand and everything. Painting over wallpaper is great! Now I'll know you can do it safely, efficiently and inexpensively. Great job! The room looks fabulous!
We felt very honored getting to try out the new room for you. It looks great. Great job on the curtains:)
