Gone Hiking

We celebrated Will's birthday with a hiking/camping birthday party.

Boy, was it fun.  We had a bunch of little boys over for grilled hot dogs, s'mores roasted on a campfire and a hike on our neighborhood hiking trail.
I made invitations out out of green and brown construction paper and folded it to look like a tent .
We threw some hotdogs on the grill and called them
kids in a blanket.
The menu also included campfire flames (Cheetos),
ants on a log,
trail mix,
bug juice and mountain water to drink and
s'more cupcakes for dessert!

We put our cowboy boots on and
were ready to celebrate this five year old boy.

As the boys were arriving they ran around the back yard playing football,
 swinging on the crazy swing,
 tummy swinging,
 and jumping on the trampoline.
After dinner
we headed out for our hike in the woods.

The boys found a river bank to explore along the way

while the dads attempted to build a fire.
We had gotten an unusual amount of rain the 4 days prior to the party so all the wood was soaking wet.  We actually had to reschedule the original day of the party because it poured the entire day.  Hiking, grilling and campfires don't work quite as well in the rain. At least in my opinion.
We finally got the fire going just enough to sort of roast our giant sized marshmallows on the flames and melt our Hershey bars in the graham crackers.

They were enjoyed by all.

After we semi-successfully built a campfire and very successfully devoured all the s'mores we hiked on back to the house.

Just in case they did not get enough sugar from the s'mores we had s'more cupcakes before opening a few gifts.

This little guy got lots of attention from his Grammy and Pops during the party.
He was well loved.

At the end of the party alll the little hikers were given flashlights as their party favors.

Happy 5th birthday, Willie!  We had a fun evening celebrating you.
